Jack Rowley Lichte, Jr. was commissioned as an officer in the US Army on June 1, 1965 in Starkville, MS. He was soon transferred to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas on the same day. Most of Lichte’s duties in the army revolved around his medical skills.
While at Fort Sam Houston, Lichte was stationed at the Brooke Army Medical Center from June 4, 1965 to September 13, 1965. On September 13, 1965, Lichte was transferred to the headquarters of Brooke General Hospital, where he was stationed from September 13, 1965 to May 14, 1966. While at Brooke General Hospital, Lichte served as part of the Air Medical Services Aviators. During this time, Lichte made trips to Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells, Texas and Fort Rucker in Alabama. He was ultimately transferred to Fort Bragg in North Carolina on September 13, 1966 as part of the 45th Medical Company through an Air Ambulance division mission. Following his trip to Fort Bragg, he was immediately transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia, where he remained until January 29, 1967. At Fort Benning, Lichte served as part of the US Army Public Health Center. He was also trained in the US Army Aviation School while at Fort Benning.
